A few years ago the Dalai Lama made a remark that has ricocheted through the web for a while . . .
“Western women will save the world,” the Buddhist spiritual leader reportedly said in a panel discussion of Nobel prize winners.
I remember Mommie and Daddy sitting at the kitchen table talking about what plan of action would be best for the family. They both were active in the community and the civil rights movement. It was decided that Mommie would be the one out front and Daddy would hold down the household . . . take care of the finances . . . keep us safe and secure. They both worked for the passage of the Civil Rights Act. Mommie went on to work for school integration and quality education for students of color in the Richmond Schools. I remember being the only little Black girl in my class. I was told that I had to sit in the back of the room, and to make sure that I took a bath everyday by my elementary school teacher. I told Mommie . . . and she wasn't having it ! ! ! My Mother was a Change Maker . . . and let us know that our actions big or small can help make the world a better place.
You don't have to be a Nobel Prize winner to make a difference. You just need to follow that still small voice . . . and take action when you feel called to do so.
One of the things my daughter felt called to do was to work with one of the hardest to serve population . . .young teen age girls.
6) I’m in a good foster home right now and this is the only family that excepts me for who I am an d what people think of me and I got more freedom and my Auntie Talya actually believes in me, trusts me , treats me with dignity and respect and I feel that all the other places I’ve been to don’t show me the same respect as my auntie does but to be honest she is scary sometimes not in a bad way but in a very caring I will always be here and protect you and tell you the honest truth type of way she ain’t afraid to keep it 1 hunnis with you if you get into trouble she won’t get mad but only if you tell the truth but if you lie to her dead in her face or if she hear about it from someone else
Then your ass is grass but to be honest when I was told I had a placement I didn’t want to go because I was scared to try something newand to see how this placemetn was going to turn out and I feel like I found the home ivebeen dreaming of since I was young and uits like and angel is watching over me its like a wish come tru I don’t know but all I can say is is that if my auntie tayla wouldn’t have taken me in and gave me cloths ov a bed blankets shower warm food or a roof over my head I would have been on the streets doing drugs, gang banging and homeless so please your honor don’t let me leave . . .
