A Bad Ass B.I.T.C.H. is a Woman who Is . . .

B – Bold

I – Independent

T- Tenacious

C – Courageous

H – Hopeful

It was sooo excited arriving at school in my new dress and brand new black and white bucks.  Mommie had pressed my hair and I had a new ribbon around one of my three pony tails.  The previous year I missed the age requirement by a few weeks, so this year I was eager and happy to begin kindergarten.  The first day we mostly played, had circle time, and ate lunch.  It was a good day until it was time to go home.  The teacher asked a few of us to stay after class so she could talk to us.  She had us sit around her and talked about how important it was to take a bath, brush our teeth, and wear clean clothes to school, so we wouldn’t smell . . . she also told us she was fixing a special spot, just for us, in the back of the room.  She smiled and was very nice as she talked, but I felt funny.  She had only called us three little black kids in the class room to stay and have this little chat.

So I told Mommie. . . and you know what happened next!

The next day I was in a different class room with a new teacher, and I didn’t have a special spot in the back of the room.  That wasn’t the first memory of Mommie taking a stand for what she felt was right . . . but it stands out in my mind because I knew something wasn’t right . . .  and I also knew that Mommie would try her best to fix it.  Even at that young age, I knew that she was a woman of power, with bad ass ways . . . and that I was safe because she was my Mother.

Mommie didn’t win all her battles, but she was an activist and advocate for, social justice and Truth all her life, and instilled in her children the tenacity to keep on keeping on.

In the midst of the culture of bull sh*t that is running rampant in our country, it’s important for us to remember that we are also Women of Power, with bad ass ways and to continue to take a stand for Truth. . . each in our own unique way!

If you are a Bad Ass B.I.T.C.H.  Shine your Light . . We need It!
